María Magdalena Silva Rentería, “Sister Magda” is the Founder and Director of the CAFEMIN women’s shelter in Mexico City. She is also the Coordinator of a network of shelters and migrant advocates throughout Mexico called REDODEM (Red de Documentación de las Organizaciones Defensoras de Migrantes). CAFEMIN, also known as The House of Shelter, Training and Empowerment for Migrant and Refugee Women is a faith-based organization that provides humanitarian aid, health care, legal advice and trauma care, along with workforce and entrepreneurship training for women migrants. Sister Magda has a lived experience of migration. She is originally from Zacatecas Mexico, but her family currently resides in the United States. She decided to return to Mexico where she has worked in defense and protection of migrant families for more than three decades.
