Drive Safe Fails in MI Legislature

Strangers No Longer Advocacy Team waged a two-year campaign to restore driver’s licenses to non-citizens living in Michigan. In spite of numerous visits, emails, and calls  by hundreds of SNL members, and the support of the Michigan Catholic Conference, the effort to pass the Drive Safe legislation came to a disappointing end.  During the last two days of the legislative session, all of the House Republicans and one Democrat walked out, resulting in the lack of a quorum. No action was taken on the Drive Safe bill and dozens of other important pieces of legislation.  The bill must now be re-introduced in both the Senate and House, but given the Republican majority in both chambers for at least the next two years, no movement on the bill is expected during the current legislative session.
