Local for Local is a faith-guided, community-led campaign to build relationships with and hold local police authorities accountable to the public safety of all. It is meant to discourage collaboration between local police authorities and ICE by advocating against 287(g) agreements, or polimigra.
Key Objective:
Demand that our tax dollars and our police protect all community members, regardless of immigration status.
Key Strategy:
Through consistent relationship-building and education, we will counter 287(g) agreements and stop polimigra from hurting our communities.
What are 287(g) agreements and how do they impact our communities?
These are agreements between state and local law enforcement agencies and Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE). The agreements give local law enforcement officers authority to carry out specific duties of federal immigration enforcement. The 287(g) program has been shown to result in racial profiling, be costly for localities, target individuals with little or no criminal history, and harm the relationship between police and local communities.
What you can do to help
We invite you to connect with your local police authorities and join our statewide Local for Local campaign, where we demand that our local police prioritize the public safety of all local residents, regardless of immigration status.
